DJ Profiles
James Murray(Gifted Resident)
Gifted Resident James Murray started DJ’ing in 1997. Growing up
in South London, James quickly took a liking to Garage music, the trend
at the time. With the latest Garage music only available on vinyl,
James bought a pair of decks and very quickly picked up the art to
mix.
Trends moved on and House music became very popular in the late
90’s as Garage music faded out. James fell in love with House
music and knew that was the style for him.
James secured his first DJ’ing job playing at a bar in Croydon.
From here he played at a number of local bars and clubs. In 2004
James entered a national DJ competition. After winning the area heats
and the regional heats, James came 5th in the national finals.
2005 was a good year for James, playing in Ibiza being the highlight.
Spending the summer on the white isle, James played at bars including
Bar M, Café Mambo, Play, Kenya and Base Bar. On his return
to the UK, Jay played at venues including Turnmills (London), The
Arches (Glasgow), Digital (Newcastle) and Honey Club (Brighton).
Since then, James has returned to Ibiza on a number of occasions and
has also played in bars and clubs up and down the UK.
In 2007 Gifted Promotions was established and James was more than
happy to take his first residency. Having started in bars across
the country, Gifted Promotions now holds events in some of the biggest
clubs in the UK with James leading the way on the decks.
2008 has already started well for James having played gigs at Turnmills, Island and Pacha and with more lined up, including further gigs at Pacha, Island and now the White House he is going from strength to strength.

Davey Hampton
‘King of the Cambridge Airwaves’, Davey Hampton is an accomplished
and passionate DJ with 14 years experience and a massive love for
music in general.
He landed his 1st residency in 1997 after being spotted by a local
‘UK Garage’ promoter for a night called ‘Nu Vybe’ in his home town
of Cambridge. 2005 saw a change in direction for Davey as he moved
away from ‘UK Garage’ and back into ‘House music’! With this change
came the opportunity for Davey to host Shameless, his very
own Radio Show on Cambridge University’s CUR1350. After
a year of hosting the ever popular Shameless, Davey’s
show soon became Digital Rhythm in association with Rhythm
at Work! With Davey’s professional approach to DJ’ing & Broadcasting
and ‘Rhythm at Work’s contacts within the
industry, the show has gone from strength to strength, allowing Davey
to have guest mixes from world class DJ’s such as Mark Knight
(Toolroom records), Dave Spoon (Toolroom Records) Nick ‘Bodyrox’
Bridges, Patrick Hagenaar (Housexy), Daley Padley, Kate Lawler and
Mark Wilkinson (Kidology records) to name but a few. This in turn
has helped him build up a loyal listenership who tune in every week
and follow him all over the country to each and every gig he plays.
Davey now plays regularly at prestigious venues such as ‘Plastik’,
Ibiza, ‘The Ministry of Sound’, ‘Turnmills’ and ‘The Key’, London
and at Cambridge’s premiere venue ‘The Fez Club’ for Nick ‘Bodyrox’
Bridges, ‘Rhythm at Work’, ‘BLEEP’ and ‘Liquid People’. Much more
is planned for Davey during autumn and winter and into 2008 as a
whole so keep your eyes on the clubs and your ears to the airwaves
because you’re gonna be seeing and hearing a whole lot more of him.
You can catch Davey presenting Digital Rhythm every Thursday from
9-11pm (GMT) on www.cur1350.co.uk or
1350 Medium Wave across Cambridge.
